The GPS Journals Privacy Policy

1. The Short Version
GPS Journals has no account, no sign-up, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Chaledey LLC does not collect your writing or any other personal information. What you write is stored on your device and, if you keep iCloud sync on, in your own private iCloud.
2. On Your Device
Your entries, Space notes with their photos and recordings, drafts, programs, places and preferences are stored in the app on this device. Entries are encrypted before they're stored. Their key is kept in this device's Keychain. In-progress drafts are encrypted with a key that stays on this device. Your device's own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) include the app's data like any other app's, and carry the entry key only when the backup is encrypted.
3. iCloud Sync
iCloud sync is on by default; you can turn it off in Settings › iCloud sync. Saved entries and Space notes, with their photos and recordings, are copied to your private iCloud database under the Apple Account signed in on this device, so they appear on your other devices. Synced copies are stored in encrypted fields in your private iCloud database, and large items such as long recordings are also encrypted by the app before upload. Drafts, programs and preferences stay on this device. Chaledey LLC has no access to your private iCloud database. iCloud is provided by Apple under Apple's own terms and privacy policy.
4. Backups
Automatic backup is off until you turn it on in Settings › Backup & recovery. When it is on, the app keeps encrypted backup copies of your writing, drafts, Spaces and program history in your private iCloud. Each backup is sealed with a recovery key the app shows you once; the key is not stored in iCloud and is never sent to us, so we cannot recover it for you. You can also save a backup file yourself through Files, sealed with its own recovery key.
5. Photos, Video and Audio
You can add photos, sound recordings and HD videos to a Space. Audio and video recordings are limited to five minutes each. Photos come from Apple's photo picker, so the app sees only the photos you choose, and location data is removed from each photo before it is saved. The camera opens only when you choose to record a video. The microphone is used only while you record. Videos are saved in the journal, not automatically in your photo library. Photos and recordings travel with sync and backups like the rest of your writing. Large videos require free storage on your device and in iCloud.
6. Reminders and the Widget
Reminders are off until you turn them on, and iOS schedules them on this device; no server of ours is involved. The Home Screen widget shows only what you allow in Settings › Preferences › Widget privacy: prompts alone, journal names and counts, or recent Spaces, drafts and guided sessions too. It never shows what you wrote.
7. What Leaves the App
The app connects to Apple only: the App Store for purchases and iCloud for sync and backups. It opens a website only when you tap a link, such as a helpline, and that site's own policy then applies. A PDF you export goes only where you send it. Contact Us opens your Mail app with your message, the app version and the iOS version, which you can read before sending; if you send it, we use it only to answer you. We do not sell or share your information with anyone.
8. Purchases
Subscription purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not receive or store your payment details.
9. Deleting Your Data
Settings › Data & reset › Erase everything & start over erases your writing, Spaces, programs and drafts from this device and turns off iCloud sync and automatic backup. It does not delete copies already in iCloud. To delete those, open the Settings app › your name › iCloud › Storage (Manage Account Storage on some versions of iOS), tap GPS Journals, then tap Delete Data from iCloud. Erasing does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage that in your Apple Account's subscription settings.
10. Children
Because the app collects no personal information, it collects none from children.
11. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with a new date.
